A joint project of Northern Kazakhstan scientists from the Scientific and Technological Water Center and Kozybayev University won GCIP Kazakhstan 2024. The Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP) is a joint initiative of the Global Environment Facility and UNIDO, aimed at discovering and developing innovations in clean technologies.
This year, over 140 applications were submitted to the GCIP National Forum, with only 32 startups making it to the acceleration program. Upon completion, teams underwent a three-month training program with international experts. The 12 best startups reached the GCIP finals, where our scientists' project won.
The winning innovation, "Self-Sustaining Technology for Decarbonization and Wastewater Treatment," reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 80%. The project's implementation also generates carbon credits, ensuring the technology’s self-sufficiency. In addition to a monetary award, the winners advanced to the international GCIP finals, scheduled for 2025 in Istanbul. They will also participate in the UN Climate Change Conference COP-30, the world’s major environmental event, to be held in Brazil in 2025.
Congratulations to our colleagues!
