For the first time among the country's higher education institutions, Kozybayev University is implementing a project for JANYNDAMYN students on suicide prevention and crisis management. It involves training volunteers to identify suicidal behavior, provide them with primary psychological care, and, if necessary, refer them to psychologists or doctors. The project has been implemented at Kozybayev University since September 2022 with the support of the World Health Organization, the Commission on Women's Rights and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
At the moment, 40 volunteer students from various faculties of the university have been trained. The students received basic knowledge of autodestructive behavior, clinical psychology, psychiatry, healthy lifestyle formation and theater psychology. Current psychologists, teachers, and psychiatrists acted as speakers and trainers. According to the result, each participant will be awarded a corresponding certificate after passing the exam.
"We believe that the experience we have gained in organizing work on the prevention of suicidal behavior and crisis states of students will allow us to organize work taking into account the new reality of the social environment in the face of new challenges and actively use the most valuable and important resource – the future generation of our country," said Pavel Moiseev, head of the Psychological Service of Kozybayev University.
Also, in June 2025, it is planned to train 15 trainers under the program of the Kazakhstan Association of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
