American scientists spoke about global environmental challenges

A guest lecture featuring scholars from the University of Arizona (USA)—Professor Charles Gerba and Professor Irina Panyushkina—was held at Kozybayev University. The event was attended by university students as well as pupils from NIS and BIL schools.

Professor Charles Gerba is a world-renowned expert in environmental microbiology. He shared insights from more than 40 years of scientific experience, covering key areas such as drinking water quality, sanitation, control of environmental pathogens, and food safety. During the lecture, Professor Gerba spoke about the use of modern methods for monitoring microbiological risks.

Professor Irina Panyushkina, a specialist in dendrochronology, explained how she conducts field and laboratory research to reconstruct past climatic conditions through the analysis of tree rings. She also shared her experience in implementing international research projects, emphasizing the importance of global scientific collaboration.

Students and school pupils showed great interest, asking questions about current environmental challenges, climate change, scientific research methods, and the difficulties scientists face. The professors openly shared stories from their scientific careers, offered advice to young researchers, and provided real-world examples from practice.
