During an extended meeting of the Government, the Head of State emphasised the need to accelerate the development of artificial intelligence in Kazakhstan. Indeed, in an era of widespread digitalisation, global AI trends are unlocking new opportunities for the advancement of various sectors — including initiatives within the higher education system.
From 28 to 30 March, Almaty hosted AlmatyFair.ai, an exhibition dedicated to artificial intelligence that brought together leading IT companies, startups, and AI experts. It became a key platform for discussing cutting-edge technologies and their application in the economy and society at large.
The Kozybayev University team also took part in this significant event.
Zhasslan Madiev, Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan, noted that in line with the President’s directive, work is underway to establish alem.ai, an international AI centre that will become a strategic platform for transforming Kazakhstan into an AI-driven nation. The exhibition showcased some of the country’s most prominent AI initiatives — including the development of the KazLLM national language model, the launch of the National AI Platform, and the work of Central Asian Innovation Hubs — an alliance of major tech parks in the region supporting the startup ecosystem across Central Asia. Representatives from platforms such as MetaHub, Derecnet AI, Cybernet, and others presented their best solutions and case studies aimed at improving the efficiency of public services.
Panel sessions also focused on emerging educational technologies to foster AI entrepreneurship in Kazakhstan, as well as future plans for the AI-Sana pilot project. This programme aims to develop human capital and facilitate the shift of universities from an educational to a research-based model. As part of this initiative, more than 4,600 students from Kozybayev University have already completed an artificial intelligence course and earned certificates.
