Bachelors of natural sciences have the following key competencies:
1) In the field of the native language
- is able to express and understand concepts, thoughts, feelings, facts and opinions in the field of geography in written and oral forms (listening, speaking, reading and writing), and interact linguistically in an appropriate and creative manner in a variety of social and cultural contexts: during studies , at work, at home and at leisure.
2) In the field of foreign languages
- owns the basic communication skills of the state language, as well as Russian and English: is able to understand, express and interpret concepts, facts and opinions in both the field of geography and environmental protection, both verbally and in writing (listening, speaking, reading, writing) in a number of social and cultural contexts. Has the skills of mediation and intercultural understanding.

- to know the scientific concepts of geology, tectonics and methods of geological research; composition, structure, age, dynamics of the earth's crust and lithosphere; classification of minerals, rocks, geological processes; geochronology of the evolution of the Earth's crust; general features of water bodies and their distribution on the globe; the features of the geographical envelope and the main geospheres of the earth, their basic patterns.
- to be able to explain geological, tectonic processes; determine the composition, properties, the origin of minerals, rocks; to compare, analyze geological, tectonic maps, profiles, exogenous, endogenous processes; to show the connection of water bodies with the environment, to know their classification; to analyze geographical problems on the basis of a geographic approach that is distinguished by its territoriality, globality and historicism; to reveal the influence of the geographical environment on the laws governing the development of processes in the hydrosphere.
- to master the skills of working with a collection of minerals, rocks; observations and descriptions; modern methods of exploring the geographical envelope; knowledge of topographic maps, master the skills to use topographic maps for practical purposes in various fields of professional activity, to have the skills to conduct geodetic measurements and topographic surveys of the terrain and apply them in practice; knowledge of the composition and general properties of the atmosphere, understand the nature of the basic physical processes flowing in the atmosphere, master the skills of using basic meteorological instruments and methods of observation, and master the skills of conducting meteorological observations.

- to know: the chronology and main results of the main stages of geographical discoveries; regularities in the nomination of natural objects; geographical directions of toponymy, history of origin and development of toponymy; theoretical foundations of physical geography and landscape studies; features of toponymy in Kazakhstan.
- to be able to explain the reflection in the geographical names of the physico-geographical and socio-economic conditions of Kazakhstan's development; to substantiate the positions of physical geography in the development of the theory of geosystems; know the practical skills of work, including mastering analytical, cartographic and evaluation and other methods, as well as mastering the methods of independent scientific research, including work with special literature; to assess the factors that determine migration and the calculation of quantitative indicators of the migration of chemical elements.
